In recent years, we've witnessed the remarkable rise and wide-scale adoption of Large Language Models (LLMs) across various sectors. These AI marvels have transformed the way businesses interact with data, text, and natural language, streamlining processes and unlocking new avenues for growth, redefining the capabilities of AI for businesses. LLMs like GPT4 have become household names in tech circles, celebrated for their ability to generate human-like text and automate cognitive tasks that were previously thought to require human intelligence.

However, the proliferation of LLMs has also shed light on some critical shortcomings. Most notably, these models are prone to"hallucinations" – fabricating information or delivering confidently asserted yet incorrect facts. This has been a significant hurdle, particularly in settings where accuracy and reliability are paramount such as for business use. Moreover, the "one-size-fits-all" approach of general LLMs often fails to cater to the unique needs and jargon of niche industries.

A promising solution to forwarding the use of LLMs for business lies within Retrieval-Augmented Generation. RAG is an innovative technique that enhances the capabilities of LLMs by providing them with context from a relevant corpus of documents. This process involves the use of vector databases and word embeddings, which translate complex textual information into a mathematical space– enabling LLMs to comprehend and leverage vast amounts of domain-specific knowledge with increased accuracy.

The incorporation of tailored LLMs utilizing retrieval systems can revolutionize how businesses utilize internal documentation. Suddenly, a company's vast repository of reports, memos, contracts, and manuals becomes an actionable intelligence, directly feeding into an AI that understands the company's language, goals, and nuances. This can lead to breakthroughs in areas like legal document analysis, technical support, personalized customer service, and more, enhancing decision-making and driving innovation with cutting-edge AI technology.

At New Gradient, we pride ourselves on our ability to push the envelope in AI-powered solutions for industry-specific challenges. We have implemented RAG solutions as part of our AI consultancy service for Managing Utilities, honing in on the domain of utility contracts and invoices—a field where tabular data is abundant and pivotal—we have refined our LLMs, RAG practices and document extraction techniques to perform especially well on tabular data from pdf’s something that is very common in utility contracts but that LLMs traditionally struggle with.

Our sophisticated document retrieval and extraction techniques have enabled the automated analysis of intricate utility documentation, consistently and accurately identifying key information. This improvement is a direct result of our tailored approach which focuses on tailored AI for business, ensuring that the LLMs we deploy for our clients are not only intelligent but also intimately aligned with their distinctive industry needs.

A further example of our implementation of LLMs and RAG systems is our customer service assistance LLM we developed for clients Omlet. Omlet are a large online pet products manufacturer and store, they receive hundreds of customer service requests each day relating to their products, including use case information, and defects. In this case there is a vast context specific language base referring to product names and use cases, and a knowledge base that traditional LLMs don't have. We developed a unique RAG based system leveraging internal documentation as well as previous customer response data to create an AI solution that could provide contextually accurate answers to their customer query's.

As the application of Large Language Models in business continues to gain momentum, it's increasingly clear that they will be a focal point of interest for companies aiming to innovate and streamline operations. At New Gradient, we look ahead with the anticipation of building upon our experience to offer LLM based solutions that directly align with business needs. As a leading AI consultancy we look forward to assisting firms in harnessing the power of tailored AI solutions, not just to improve their existing outcomes but to transform how they conceive and execute their business strategies in an AI-augmented future
